ACs move heat, not “cold.”
Your unit absorbs heat indoors and releases it outside. Good airflow helps that heat transfer happen efficiently.

Did you know?
Air conditioners work hard in South African homes and businesses. A few simple checks can improve comfort, reduce strain and help you spot when professional service is needed.
Your unit absorbs heat indoors and releases it outside. Good airflow helps that heat transfer happen efficiently.
Clogged filters reduce airflow, lower efficiency and can allow dirt to build up where it should not.
An oversized unit can cool quickly but may not dehumidify properly, leaving the room less comfortable. Work out the right size.
Leaves, dust and clutter around the condenser can restrict airflow and reduce performance.
How to take care of the unit
Do not block indoor return air or supply airflow with curtains, furniture or stored items. Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, dust and plants.
Inspect filters monthly during heavy use. Some split-unit filters can be cleaned every two weeks, depending on dust levels and manufacturer guidance.
Coils, drains, refrigerant checks and electrical connections should be inspected by a qualified technician as part of scheduled maintenance.
Cleaning
Clean filters help improve airflow, cooling performance and indoor air quality. During heavy use, check the filters every 2-4 weeks, or at least once a month for general upkeep.
Soft microfibre cloth, vacuum cleaner with brush attachment, mild detergent, lukewarm water, a bowl or basin, gloves and a step ladder if required.
Optimal performance
Air conditioners perform best when they are cooling a controlled space. Open windows and exterior doors let heat and humidity back in.
Blocking direct sun during hot parts of the day reduces heat gain and helps the unit maintain temperature more easily.
Choose a comfortable setting instead of forcing the lowest possible temperature. Small changes can reduce strain and energy use.
Auto fan settings usually help the system manage cooling cycles. Ceiling or room fans can help distribute cool air in occupied areas.
Call us if your unit is leaking, freezing up, tripping, making unusual sounds, smelling abnormal, cooling poorly or due for a maintenance service. Preventative attention is usually easier than emergency repair.
